2023-24 Bronco Guide
My first year with The Poly Post, Cal Poly Pomona’s student-run newspaper, was a dramatic push into the design world of quick concepts, tight deadlines, and revisons, revisions, revisions.
With this magazine, I met with my teammates on a weekly basis through Zoom and we developed and critiqued layouts that fleshed out the stories we were given. I enjoyed being able to visualize a concept based on the story’s topic and create a cohesive layout, aiming to present stories with a sense of fun that would increase engagement with readers. My most well-received design has been my fashion spread, which I tied together with a paper doll concept.

2024-25 Bronco Guide
Entering my second year with The Poly Post as a Co-Lead Designer for the magazine, I had one main goal: consistency. My main critique for the previous Bronco Guide was the broad range of colors in the design guide’s color palette. I still wanted to allow our designers the freedom to experiment, but implemented a more restrictive color palette and stricter use of guidelines.
I designed almost two times the amount of layouts that I did the previous year, with the same intention of making stories come to life through visuals. Flexible to the concepts developed from the stories, I experimented with different illustration styles and collage, such as the loose, stylistic graphics in my “8 Colleges” spread and the pixel art style in my “Senior Projects” spread.
